Certain iPhone models can convert your physical SIM to eSIM or transferred by some carriers. This process can be made possible by contacting your carrier.

Setup allows you to transfer your eSIM and physical SIM.

These steps will help you transfer your eSIM to your new iPhone or convert your old SIM* to an eSIM.

  • Click Continue to the bottom to select the numbers you wish to transfer to your new iPhone. You can also  choose to click decide later the plan transfer at any time after setting up your iPhone.
  • To set up your device, follow the instructions on screen.
  • Before you remove your cellular plan from an iPhone, make a phone call to your new iPhone. If you have any questions about this process, you can contact your carrier.

Your cellular plan will be activated on the new iPhone. The plan on your old iPhone will also be deactivated. You can throw out any physical SIMs that were used in your deactivated plan.

Note: A physical SIM can be converted to an eSIM in Quick Start setup, if you are transferring to an iPhone 13 or iPhone SE (3rd Generation).

 

After setup, transfer a physical SIM or an eSIM from your existing iPhone to your new iPhone.

  • Go to Settings > Cellular > Add Cellular plan on your new iPhone.
  • Tap Convert Cellular Plan.
  • Tap Convert to an eSIM.
  • Tap OK to accept the alert requesting that you transfer your iPhone’s data.
  • Tap Transfer on your previous iPhone.
  • Wait for your cellular plan to activate on your new iPhone. When the cellular plan activates on your new iPhone, your previous SIM card will be deactivated .
  • Tap the banner that appears on your iPhone that reads Finish Setting up Your Carrier’s Cellular Plan.
  • Tap Continue. To transfer your eSIM, you will be redirected by your carrier’s webpage . Contact your carrier if you have any questions.

Convert your SIM card to an eSIM with the same iPhone

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Convert to an eSIM.
  3. Tap Convert Cellular Plan.
  4. Tap Convert to an eSIM.
  5. Wait for your eSIM activation. When your iPhone activates cellular plans, your previous SIM card will be deactivated.
  6. Take out the SIM card from your iPhone.
